A Fundraising Effort for Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee
Through Franklin County Art Guild’s, Artisan Depot Gallery and Gift Shop, Cowan, Tennessee

The hard reality is that food insecurity affects 1 in 8 Middle and West Tennesseans. According to Second Harvest’s 2021-2022 Annual Report, the food bank supplied 364,900 meals to 6,300 food-insecure individuals, including 1,540 children, in Franklin County. I am committed to helping feed those with food insecurity in our area.
One hundred percent of my profit from Creation Feeding The People Through Art goes to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, which has a 45-year history of providing food to people facing hunger, and working to advance hunger solutions in our community. Second Harvest is proud to report that 96 cents of every dollar donated goes
directly to programming and that every $1 donated provides four meals to a child, senior, and family with not enough food to eat.

As a multi-media artist, I am currently passionate about several forms of art. I am enthralled with eco print: a natural dyeing process where the color from plant material is transferred to cloth and paper to create unique, beautiful clothing, scarves, and high-quality practical, journals for writing or drawing in or viewing. According to those who have bought them, they have a calming feel. They, as well as my memory albums, photo albums and greeting cards can be given as gifts or used as precious records of weddings and baby showers, graduations, family reunions, or any special occasion. 

Eco print can be a lengthy process and every time I reveal the final watercolor-like print, it is like the expectation of opening presents on Christmas morning!
Nature photography also captivates me. Clients have said that they feel a connection to and remembered the peaceful joy of being at the places that I photograph, every time they look at them! Favorite supports for the images are metal,
glass, acrylic, canvas and paper.
I also have the joy of incorporating glass, metal photography, and pottery to create mosaics, usually on wood and masonry.
My lifetime goal is for people to see the serenity of nature in my art and appreciate God’s creation, in turn, wanting to know Him better. I believe that as The Trinity, He provides spiritual security. We as creation, can be His hands to help provide food-security.

Members Show

MarthaLee McCarthy photographic show “52Frames will open July 6th at the Artisan Depot in Cowan TN sponsored by the Franklin County Arts Guild.  McCarthy has enjoyed capturing life’s images since she was young. Inspired by her dad’s love of photography, she signed up for a darkroom class as a sophomore in college and became hooked on what would turn out to be a life-long passion.....Read More ​

In 2003, her husband accepted a job with the University of the South, and the family moved to Sewanee from Georgia. She began working as an English teacher at Franklin County High School, where she taught photography to her yearbook journalism students.

The current show was born while the pandemic was raging when she joined approximately 3,500 other photographers from all over the world in a photo challenge called 52Frames.  Participants in the challenge are given the opportunity to join small groups of other photographers from around the globe to both support and critique one another.  She is now in her third year of the challenge, and has friends in Norway, India, England, Australia, New Zealand, France, and Brazil, as well as others from all over the United States.

She explains, “Each week, participants are given a different theme to capture or a particular technique to execute.  The only real requirement, other than accomplishing the task, is that the picture must be taken during the week of the challenge. At the end of each week, 52 photographs are selected for special recognition for their quality and the technique used in fulfilling that week’s challenge.  To have a photo chosen for the “52 Picks” out of 3,500 entries is an honor that I have been thrilled to receive on four occasions.”

Mrs. McCarthy’s show will run from July 6th through August 27th at the Artisan Depot gallery at 204 Cumberland St. Cowan, TN 37318.  The Artisan Depot is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12pm-5pm.  There will be a meet the Artist’s reception from 5-7pm at the Artisan Depot on July 21st.  Mrs. McCarthy cordially invites members of the community to attend and enjoy the show.

The Garden is in Full Bloom

It's rare for me to be at the Gallery when someone isn't visiting our beautiful garden space. I can understand why. It's very restful, with places to sit and relax, but it's also a great place to get a great vacation shot. While there, we welcome you to visit our Gallery & Gift shop. We are open Thursday, Friday & Sunday 12-5 and Saturday 11-5. See you there.

Programs and Services offered by the Gallery​

Artisan Depot is the primary connection of FCAG to the community we serve by providing the following services and programs.
Services:
1. Designated Student Gallery aimed at K-12 students and supporting art teachers through shows. Also supporting other youth groups such as Art Inside and Healing Arts Programs Ink (HAPI)
2. Six themed fee-free community art shows open to all artists of any age, experience, or media. We've had artists as young as 7 and more mature artists in their 90s. You can visit our website for the 2023/2024 Community Shows list. Franklincoarts.org/shows 3. Regular Member and Guest Shows featuring established artists.  Provide low-cost space for juried artists to display and sell their work.
​4. We have a Meet & Greet Reception every third Friday of the month between 5:00-7:00pm (unless otherwise stated) for each new Member's Show or Community Show. Everyone is welcome, free of charge. Refreshments provided. 
5. We also support our community by funding an Art Scholarship fund for higher education. FGAC supports this through a yearly silent auction. 
Programs:
1. Workshops- We offer a variety of teaching workshops by talented and experienced artists. The participant learns a technique and produces a product. 
2. Art Wednesday - is a program open to all free of charge. Every Wednesday morning from 10:00 - 12:00. It offers a space to work on any project of your own (or no project at all) and interact with other artists (even if you think you are not an artist, just a person that makes things) and maybe go to lunch or other fun outings to other places of interest. (Lunch is afterward at different locations in the area. Lunch is not provided) 
3. Art Garden: We maintain a reclaimed space and an Open Air Art Gallery. It is planted to attract and support pollinators and contains a wall-sized garden mural and art sculptures that have practical as well as artistic value. The garden has recently been certified as a Monarch Waystation. We are looking for ideas/events to help connect our community to that space.
