September is filled with global observances that beautifully echo the heart of our mission — compassion, creativity, nature, and community healing. Here’s how these international days connect with what we’re doing right here in Franklin County.

What’s Happening This MonthSept 5 — International Day of Charity A perfect moment to celebrate our volunteers, teaching artists, and everyone who helps make healing‑through‑art accessible in our rural communities.
Sept 8 — International Literacy Day We’re highlighting the power of storytelling in art — from illustrated journals to creative writing prompts in our workshops.
Sept 10 — World Suicide Prevention Day Our Creative Connections programming reminds the community that art can be a gentle place to land. We’ll share supportive resources and encourage folks to drop by the gallery for a moment of calm.
Sept 15 — International Day of Democracy Art is a voice — and this day honors every person who walks into the gallery and expresses themselves through color, texture, and imagination.
Sept 16 — World Ozone Day A lovely tie‑in to your nature‑inspired September displays. Celebrate the skies, clouds, and landscapes that inspire so many of our local artists.
Sept 19 — Locate an Old Friend Day A sweet opportunity to invite the community to reconnect — bring a friend to the gallery, share a creative moment, or enjoy the new September exhibits together.
Sept 21 — International Day of Peace & World Alzheimer’s Day We’ll spotlight peaceful, reflective artwork and honor caregivers, families, and loved ones affected by memory loss.
Sept 22 — World Rhino Day A fun nature‑themed moment to highlight wildlife art in the gallery or share a playful social post.
Sept 27 — World Tourism Day & World Rivers Day Celebrate Cowan and Winchester as creative destinations — and uplift the river‑inspired pieces in the gallery.
Sept 29 — World Heart Day A reminder that creativity strengthens emotional well‑being. Perfect for promoting your healing‑centered workshops.
Sept 30 — International Translation Day Art is its own language — and this day honors the many ways creativity helps us communicate across cultures and experiences.

Why Join the Franklin County Arts Guild

The Franklin County Arts Guild promotes artists and craftspeople through its gallery, The Artisan Depot, scholarships, education, and community programs.

Often with art I feel I’m talking with someone who knows something I don’t, something I’d like to know. Art stretches me, challenges me, makes me think and feel.  by Nea Staff
